Karen A. Wilcox, 80, of Toledo, Ohio, died Sunday, May 26, 2019, in St. Anne Mercy Hospital. Born July 12, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of Clyde and Irma (Cupp) Wilcox. She attended Saint Mary’s Episcopal School in Peekskill, New York and Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. Karen had a great passion for music & teaching and considered her students as family. She began teaching piano and organ at Grinnell’s downtown (studios – Macy’s Westgate-Cauffiel-Great Lakes Piano and Evola Music). She was the church organist and choir director at numerous Lutheran Churches in the area and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oregon, St. Thomas in Trenton, Michigan and lastly St. Andrew Episcopal, where she’s been a member since 1956. Karen played piano and organ at several clubs in the area, including, Parklane, Holiday Inn, Everglades, Aku-Aku and Granada Gardens. After a five year break to Attend the University of Toledo, she joined Hershey Cohen and Company to perform at Bel-Isle, Ricardos, Willows, Toledo Club, Toledo Country Club, Inverness and others. She took over the group when Hershey retired.
Karen is survived by daughter, Dawn “Allayne” (Penny) Clark; son, Bret Crawford; grandchildren, Cammie (Adam) Herrera, Kristyn (Linda) Sams, Amanda Crawford, Marissa Clark, Justyn Clark, Bret A. Crawford, II, Kymber (Adrian) Fishler, and Mark Rodriques; great grandchildren, Julian, Heaven, Joshua, Derren, Dylan, Hannah, Sabastian, Brandon, Khyla, Alex, Xander and King; great great granddaughter, Jaycee Kae. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Sadie Wilcox.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
